What is Vibration of Versatility?

VOV (Vibration of Versatility) is a community organization and collective of musicians based out of Asheville, NC. We are joining together to create new and original music to support various music education charities and foundations on regional, national, and international levels.

VOV is taking on the challenge of producing 12 records of 12 different genres in the 12 months of 2014 with over 100 musicians involved locally and other collaborators from all over the country and internationally as well. Lenny Pettinelli (Project Coordinator/Writer/Producer) is spearheading this mission because he finds Asheville to be a "musical mountain haven" where anything is possible. New musical relationships are being born and musicians who might never have met or played together otherwise are being thrown in the mix to create fresh and original music.

The VOV Volume Series is donating 30% of net profits from all physical CD and digital sales as well as any money that may be earned or collected from licensing/placement of their music to the cause of music education. This means that VOV will be able to raise an UNLIMITED amount of money for these foundations and charities whenever any downloads or placements occur.

Right now is a critical time for this project due to the costs of production and distribution. VOV is asking for help and funding from the Asheville/WNC community of local businesses and any supporters of the arts. In order for the project to gain as much revenue as possible towards teaching future generations this culturally necessary art from, it is important for us to receive as much support as possible during this first year of production. Donate here:

So far the project has included over 50 musicians locally and other contributors from New Orleans, Los Angeles, Northern California, and Ohio. Everyone involved has sacrificed countless hours of time, energy and creativity to get us to where we are today. Whether you are a business owner or a music fan in the Asheville area, you more than likely know or work with somebody who is involved with this project. Some of the collaborators include members of Empire Strikes Brass, Free Radio, RBTS Win, Common Foundation, Phuncle Sam, New Color, Magenta Sunshine, Philo, Jeff Thompson, Oso Rey, Searra Gisondo, Laura Blackley, David Earl, Debrissa McKinney, Rachel Waterhouse, Soleil LeBlanc, Andrea Lee, Wolf Navarro, Beau Sniderman, Sarah Hasty, Noah Larrsen and many more. So far the genres we have tackled are Conscious Soul Hip-Hop, Electronic Music, Reggae/Dub, and Singer/Songwriter. Next in line are Jazz, Funk, Comedy, Rock, Neo-Soul, Blues, Afrobeat, and Indie-Pop. The process of recording all of these records has also given VOV the ability to put on a variety of different shows. We are literally over a dozen bands under one umbrella and we can deliver a performance of original music that is genre specific or eclectic and diverse. The Vibration of Versatility musician-owned and operated collective hopes to continue this project well beyond 2014.

VOV Vol. 2 – Fire Electronique (Electronic)

VOV Vol 2

VOV Volume 2 (Fire Electronique) is an album of electronic music featuring many producers and musicians from different sub-genres and groups. There are more up-tempo house type grooves as well as slower dubstep, drum and bass, and hip-hop influenced tracks. The title track “Fire Electronique” is a collaboration between Lenny P. and Tyler Leroi Moore-Boyd (aka New Color) that starts off with an epic strings intro and develops into a heavily layered synth section with some tricky drums and bass. “Blacklites” and “Mistoply” have some of the same intensity. Other contributors on V. 2 include the very talented Javier Bolea of the Asheville independent electronic group RBTS Win Oso Rey (aka the BearKing), Jesse Skar-Thompson (production), Dan Wedge (production), J. Homer Jenkins (production/percussion), Andrew Kirk (guitar), and Josh Loffer of Jahman Brahman (keys).   The various artists coming together on this record have created a pleasing blend of danceable, hard, funky, and intense beats that will grab your ear. 30% of net profits from V.2 will go to organizations, charities and foundations that are devoted to educating youth about the technology behind sound and music production.

VOV Vol. 1 – Sky Is the Limit (Hip Hop)

VOV Vol 1 Sky Is the Limit

V.O.V. Volume 1 (Sky is the Limit) is a Conscious Soul Hip-Hop record with seriously slinky grooves and high energy vibes.  Every song on the album was produced with real instruments played by real musicians.  The title track features Asheville based Hip-Hop artists Free Radio along with DJ RaMak, an awesome rhythm section and powerful horns.  The album also features rappers  Philo, Brendan Jebb, and Professor Songbird.  Singers include Rachel Waterhouse, Adrianna Rosen of Common Foundation, Jeheanna Sharpe of Free Radio and Lenny Pettinelli who is the Project Coordinator, Founder, and Producer of V.O.V.  The horn players on the record are Pauly Juhl, JP Furnas, and Jerome Widenhouse (all 3 of whom play with Empire Strikes Brass and many other projects), as well as John Dallmer and Lisa Santini.  Rhythm section players on v. 1 are James Kylen on drums and bass,  Duane Simpson of the Cheap Suits on guitar, Josh Chassner of Kings of Prussia and RBTS Win on guitar, Dave Einzig of Magenta Sunshine on guitar,  JD Smith of Phuncle Sam on bass and Lenny Pettinelli on keys.  All in all, there are 20 musicians who have come together on this 10 track record to create something truly unique that will be sure to get your head bobbin’! The best part about it is that when you buy this record 30% of it goes towards putting instruments into the hands of kids who really need them via Fender Music Foundation. V.O.V is truly grateful for any and all support and they need as much of it as possible to achieve their mission.  Check out V.O.V. v. 1 on iTunes at https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/v.o.v.-vol.-1-sky-is-the-limit/id872643789,  listen to some of the songs at http://www.reverbnation.com/vovvibrationofversatility or keep up with their latest endeavors and find out how you can help or be involved at https://www.facebook.com/vov2014
